IMMUNE BOOST SHOT

I stopped by to see a good friend yesterday who greeted me with the warning to “stay away” because she could tell she was coming down with something. I gave her an air hug from across the room and dipped out of there, knowing exactly the home remedy I wanted to make for her.  We all know when we are not feeling our 100 percent. And this is the best time to start treating ourselves so that we can boost our immune systems and have a possibility to not become full-blown sick.

One day when I had a tickle in my throat that was causing me to cough, a Colombian friend of mine shared this recipe with me that was passed down through her family. While these ingredients may sound a bit strange, they actually have health-promoting compounds that improve your overall immune response. Here is how they do it.

Red onion (not green, yellow or white onion) has an antioxidant called Allicin that is able to destroy pathogens that weaken the immune response.

Lemons are loaded with Vitamin C that support the body’s natural defenses and has antiviral and antibacterial properties. Lemons help to detoxify your blood and also have high levels of potassium which is an excellent way to get more electrolytes into your system.

Radishes have anti-congestive properties which helps in clearing the excess mucus forming in your throat and respiratory tract. They are also high in vitamin A,C,E, B6, potassium and antioxidants which are great to boost the immune system.

Garlic has been recorded in ancient times as a powerful killer against viruses and bacteria. These antiviral and antibacterial properties still can kill many common colds and flu viruses today as long as they are taken raw. Garlic also contains the immune boosting allicin compound, which is antimicrobial, antiparasitic and antifungal.

Honey has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties and is very soothing to the body, especially the throat and chest. I recommend buying a local honey so that you are ingesting minute amounts of local allergens and build up an immunity to them.

Combining these ingredients in this little shot will give the body a powerhouse of immune boosters. By building the body up, we can strengthen our defenses to get rid of those pesky germs. You will feel these ingredients working their stuff at the first sip.

The perfect pink color of this drink also makes me swoon every time I make it.

IMMUNE BOOST DRINK

You will need these ingredients:

  • 1 large organic red onion (1 cup-1 ¼ cup)
  • 1 cup organic lemon juice
  • 6 large or 8 small organic radishes (1 cup – 1 ¼ cup)
  • 7 cloves organic garlic (1 tablespoon, minced)
  • 1 cup raw, local, honey

Directions:

  1. To begin, peel your onion and garlic cloves.
  2. Wash the radishes and take off the stems.
  3. Cut the onion in 4 large pieces.
  4. Place in a blender all of the ingredients. Blend for a minute or two until the drink is smooth.
  5. Drink 2 shot glasses, morning, noon and night.
